NWSD STUDENTS CHOSEN AS WARDROBE CREW FOR NEW MOVIE

Finally, a truly South African production that is produced by local independent film makers that will compete on an international level.
XJ-1 is an original story that is being put into production by Eternal Film Productions (PTY) Ltd. The script was developed with the aim to capture the attention of an international audience with an excellent story. Although many independent film makers exist in South Africa, not many are recognized internationally. Furthermore, no one in South Africa has ever attempted to film a drama with such a technological background and science fiction flavour.
The 2nd year Fashion Management & Communication students are eager and excited to be given the opportunity and immense responsibility of costume design and wardrobe planning for the movie.  The scope of their task includes doing script breakdowns, character analysis, wardrobe selection and finally on set wardrobe management.

Wardrobe styling for film forms part of their 3rd year journalism curriculum so this group of students are thrilled to be given a head start with this assignment.  It has been an interesting journey in exploring the script to finally giving the characters a personality. The students all feel as though we have bonded with the script and have gotten to know the characters personally through breaking down the script and analyzing each character's personality.

The first meeting with the XJ-1 Crew

On 19 September 2013 the students had their first wardrobe meeting with the production team from Eternal Film Productions. The meeting was a great success and fuelled their excitement for dressing each character.
Lecturer, Lisa De Villiers is leading the talented wardrobe crew from North West School of Design and will help to coordinate all the elements involved with such a dynamic team.
