Battling to figure out how to take your creative work beyond the confines of your own social circle? Needing to find that thing that will give your creativity wings?
The Design Indaba Expo 2014
Emerging Creatives programme invites young and upcoming designers to apply to
have their work exhibited on the Design Indaba Expo floor, alongside some of the
country’s foremost creatives.
Emerging
Creatives, sponsored by the Department of Arts and Culture, is one of
the many ways that Design Indaba is committed to nurturing and
promoting the creative talent of young South Africans. It serves as a
developmental platform for the next generation of designers, whose work
is all selected based on its quality, originality and ability to
stand alongside world-class designs.
A total of
40 Emerging Creatives will be selected and given full sponsorship to showcase
their work at Design Indaba Expo 2014, as well as a ticket to attend the Young
Designers Simulcast of the Design Indaba Conference.
Applications are open to
students in a creative faculty at a tertiary institution in South Africa and
young designers in the process of establishing a design service or business.
You must be South African or have residency status to qualify.
Design Indaba Expo 2014
promises to be bigger, better and bolder than ever. As an Emerging Creative
you’ll have the opportunity to meet local and international buyers, market your
products and services to the public, learn from your more established peers and
network with one another.
What better way to measure the
success of the initiative than by looking at those creatives who have used the Emerging
Creatives platform as their launching pad into creative stardom. Daniel Ting
Chong has done work for theNew York Times, Laduma Ngxokolo’s designs are seen on
runways in London and Paris, Chris Saunders did a residency at Fabrica in Italy
and Lauren Fowler opened an online shop – and these are all designers who
started off as Emerging Creatives!
Applications close on Friday 15
November 2013.
