The Gert Johan Coetzee
Bursary is an opportunity for an aspiring fashion designer to walk away with a
bursary to study fashion design at North West School of Design to ultimately
obtain an International Qualification in Fashion.
Apart from winning the bursary which includes all materials and equipment, the winner will also be personally mentored by Gert Johan Coetzee. Bernina SA has come aboard to offer the winner of the bursary a sewing machine and overlocker to the value of R32 250-00

The bursary is open to any aspiring fashion designer with a
National Senior Certificate (NSC) – Matriculation (Grade 12) or an
international equivalent. The minimum
institutional admission requirement is also a National Certificate (Vocational)
(NCC) Level 4 issued by the Council of Further Educations and Training.
Gert Johan Coetzee
studied fashion at the North West School of Design and qualified as Designer of
the year in 2005. For the past six years, he has served on the institution’s
advisory board.
Based in
Klerksdorp, the North West School of Design (NWSD) is an International Fashion
College for Christian tertiary education.
NWSD offers a full spectrum of courses that prepare future fashion
professionals as designers, clothing technologists, fashion buyers, fashion
journalists and forecasters. NWSD exposes
students to international best practices and insights, to align the college with
global standards.
The value of the
bursary is R168 000-00 which includes,

fees

internship at Gert Johan Coetzee’s Studio
- The
mentorship of Gert Johan Coetzee (which involves help and guidance from
him throughout the 3 years of study as well as accompanying Gert Johan
Coetzee to various fashion events, networking events, social events and
through this networking with celebrities and thus creating possible job
opportunities).

Applicants need to complete the online
GJC Bursary Application Form on www.nwsd.co.za and will then need to submit the following documents:

Latest statement of results
·
A one- page essay motivating
why he/she should be the recipient of the bursary.

The closing date for applications is 17 October 2014.
The bursary excludes accommodation, meals and transport. The winner must be able to relocate to
Klerksdorp, North West Province, to complete his/her fulltime studies.
The top 7 applicants will undergo an interview process with Gert
Johan Coetzee and his publicist. The
finalist’s individual, personal interviews will be conducted at the NWSD
Platinum Fashion Festival, VIP Lounge. The
winner of the bursary will be announced by Gert Johan Coetzee at the gala event
of the Platinum Fashion Festival on 8 November 2014, in Klerksdorp.
The NWSD Platinum Fashion Festival event’s team will assist all
finalists with transport and accommodation arrangements and will brief the
finalists on time lines for interviews and attendance of the various Platinum
Fashion Festival shows.
